Frequently Asked Questions

What does my child need to know before beginning lessons?

Students should be able to say their alphabet (from A at least) and know how to count to 5 before beginning lessons. It helps if your child has an interest in music, but even if they do not visibly show it by singing or dancing often, most children find that they enjoy playing after just a couple of months of lessons!

Do I need to buy a piano home before we start classes?

It is possible to start lessons with only a keyboard. With the development of level and repertoire, you may feel the need for a piano with higher specifications. Yasmin will be guiding you to the best kinds and closest places to buy your new piano.

As a parent, how much do I have to be involved in the lessons?

You must have the time to set aside time each day to practice with your child to offer encouragement and a guidance. Most young children are not as motivated as older children to practice or do not know how to start. While it takes lots of work and effort to learn to play music, it has very satisfying results at the end.

When do I (or my child) expect to see progress?

Each student is different and it all depends on their persistence, patience, personality and of course the time invested in their practice time at home.

How do I know if I am progressing?

If you or your child is already performing a piece where you can feel the melody is flowing and sounds more like a song rather than a bunch of notes played separately, then this is one .

How much time do I need to practice piano?

The amount of practice required is different for adults and children. As a general guide, the same amount of time spread over 5 days (e.g. around 10 to 15 minutes per day) would be ideal, especially for children. This approach (a small amount several days a week) is definitely preferable to one or two longer sessions per week, especially in the early stages.
